Bikramjit Baulia from silchar is singing songs through phone calls for the covid positive patients to stay relaxed and positive.
At a time when India is reeling under the deadly covid second wave, people from different walks of life are trying ways to make the situation somewhat better for covid-19 patients. While people have opened food delivery services to serve covid-affected people and frontline workers are on their feet fighting the wave, a singer from Assam is winning hearts for singing songs to people over the phone in an attempt to make them feel better. Silchar-based folk singer Bikramjit Baulia has been inspired by Bengali singer Lopamudra Mitra in starting with his campaign and took to social media six days ago, to announce his initiative. Although many instantly called him out for his “publicity stunt", but Bikramjit says that he enjoys uplifting people’s mood by singing. Bikramjit Bauliya, a 33-year-old folk singer from the Malugram area in Silchar, Assam, sings for Covid-19 positive people over the phone to boost their mental health. A few days back, he shared a post on social media and started getting calls. Over 200 people have so far called him from various parts of Assam and other states to hear him hum and sing.
Talking about his reason behind the campaign, Bikarmjit Bauliya said, “Last year I also tested positive and it was a tough time I went through, mostly because of the pressure I faced. I have struggled with depression at one point in my life and I know how tough it is to fight with our own mind. I am a singer but I have to work for my father’s medicine shop to earn my bread and butter. Music is my passion and I gain positivity from music. With this campaign, I am getting a chance to connect with people and listening to their stories. This is making me more positive and optimistic.” He added to mention that so far he has attended over 217 calls from people across Barak Valley and various parts of the state and even from other parts of the country. " While I have received calls to sing songs from patients who are in home isolation mostly, there have been requests from people who have been fatigued with the gloom around us. More than the physical ailment, the disease has also brought mental distress and I believe we have to come out of the stigma triggered by the onslaught of the virus. This is the time we must rise above and stand by people in despair and ignite hope that we can overcome the crisis together. The singer maintained. On the other hand, he mentioned that he runs a medical store near his residence in the Malugram area of the town and he is delivering medicines free of cost to people even to families affected by COVID-19, Bikram said
Bikram not only received calls from Assam but also Jharkhand, Chattisgarh has also called him to listen to his music. The best feeling is when a person put me on loudspeaker while he was with 20 other Covid-19 infected persons in the hospital and they listened to my music, Bikram told G-plus."Music therapy does wonders in healing"Many of them don’t just listen to his songs but also share their experience, fear, anxiety and battle with the coronavirus disease. An 82-year-old lady calls him every day. On Saturday morning she informed me that she tested negative. The lady claimed that she recovered quickly due to the positive energy she generated within because of Bikarmjit’s songs.
