NCERT and Guwahati Police raid on bookstores selling fake NCERT books
In a joint effort between the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and Guwahati Police, a targeted operation was conducted in the Pan Bazar locality on Friday afternoon. The operation aimed to address the issue of counterfeit NCERT books being sold within the city.
Three prominent bookstores came under scrutiny during the crackdown: Binimoy New and Old Books, Novelty New and Old Books, and Kitab Bhawan. These establishments were suspected of engaging in the sale of fake NCERT publications.
Substantial evidence of counterfeit NCERT books was seized during the operation, highlighting the scale of the issue. Furthermore, additional reports indicate that several other retailers in the area may also be involved in the illicit trade of duplicate books, masquerading them as genuine NCERT publications.
In response to the alleged infringement, the city police have taken decisive action by detaining six individuals for questioning. These individuals are believed to have connections to the distribution or sale of counterfeit NCERT books.
Counterfeit educational materials pose a significant threat to the integrity of the education system, as they can mislead students and compromise the quality of learning. The collaboration between NCERT and Guwahati Police underscores the commitment to combatting such illicit activities and ensuring the availability of authentic educational resources.
Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to the sale of counterfeit books. Efforts to eradicate the circulation of fake educational materials are ongoing, with stringent measures being taken to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
As investigations continue, NCERT and law enforcement agencies emphasize the importance of upholding the standards of education and protecting the interests of students and educators alike.
