On May 1, Sushmita Roy (28), a pregnant woman, was admitted to Silchar's City Maternity Hospital in Rangirkhari by her husband, Kumarjit Dev, under the supervision of gynecologist Dr. Arun Debnath.

She gave birth to a son at 7:30 PM. However, her condition deteriorated on May 2 around noon.

By 10 PM, Dr. Debnath had Sushmita rushed to Green Hills Private Hospital in Meherpur, where she was placed in ICU until May 24. Despite efforts, Sushmita passed away at 1 AM.

Sushmita's parents, Shankari Roy and Babla Ranjan Roy, blamed Dr. Arun Debnath for negligence, asserting that it led to their healthy daughter's death.

They demand an investigation, the cancellation of the hospital's license, and Dr. Debnath's dismissal from Silchar Civil Hospital.

They have made a formal appeal to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, and the District Commissioner.

Kumarjit Dev, Sushmita’s husband, highlighted the absence of basic facilities like an elevator and ICU at the hospital, questioning the basis for its license.

He urged immediate legal action to shut down the hospital, fearing more lives might be lost due to negligence.
