New bridge in Amraghat announced, sparks protests against old bridge repairs

On Thursday, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma announced the construction of a new 140-meter bridge in Amraghat during a public meeting at Dholai's Barajalenja Model Degree College. However, just 24 hours later, the Public Works Department began repairs on the old 45-year-old bridge over the Sonai River.

This led to strong opposition from local residents who insisted that the new bridge be completed before any repairs to the old one. The locals halted traffic on the bridge and stopped the repair work, demanding that the new bridge construction take priority.

In response to the suspension of work, Junior Engineer Rituraj Das and SO Imdad Laskar of the Dholai-Sonai Division met with the community. Das informed the media that ₹1.1 crore has been allocated for the bridge repairs.
