Online Abuse Tragets College Students, Seek Officials' Help

Amidst a crackdown on cybercriminal networks in Guwahati, a distressing incident has emerged. Female students from a local college reported experiencing online abuse and threats. Today, they sought assistance from the Bashistha police station after being subjected to menacing messages and indecent content on their social media profiles.
According to the students, scammers infiltrated a WhatsApp group, gaining access to their phone numbers and distributing manipulated images of them on social media. Additionally, the students claimed they received threatening phone calls during the night, prompting them to contact the police and share their harrowing experiences, which have been ongoing since September 23.
Bashistha ACP Pranjal Baruah assured the students that the responsible individuals would face appropriate consequences, and the case would be referred to the cyber cell. One student, speaking to the media, disclosed that approximately 63 female students have been targeted in this ordeal.
