Operation uncovers illegal 500 bags weighing approximately 20,000 kgs of Burmese Supari at Assam-Mizoram Border
In a swift response to a credible tip-off, law enforcement agencies launched a special operation against the illegal transportation of Burmese Areca nuts along the challenging terrain of the Assam-Mizoram border, approximately 80 kilometers from the district headquarters in Silchar.
The operation, which unfolded in the dense forest area of Jurkhal near the Sonai River, resulted in a significant seizure and shed light on an intricate smuggling network.
During the meticulously conducted search and raid operation, law enforcement officers discovered around 500 bags, equivalent to approximately 20,000 kilograms, of suspected Burmese Supari hidden in the vicinity.
Additionally, a motor-boat believed to have been used in the transportation of the contraband was found concealed in the backyard of an individual identified as Pala Hmar, also known as Lal Rokung Hmar.
Investigations revealed that a group of miscreants, in collaboration with their counterparts in Mizoram, had been attempting to smuggle these goods through river routes from Saifai, Mizoram, to Assam, bypassing the traditional pathways.
