Outsourced Assistants Stage 6-Day Strike, Demand Job Regularization
In a resolute protest, outsourced support workers from Silchar Electrical Sub-Division 2 embarked on a six-day strike starting Tuesday, gathering in front of the office of Silchar Electrical Sub-Division 2. Their primary demand: the regularization of their jobs. Speaking to the media, these workers expressed their frustration, emphasizing that they were compelled to resort to this strike due to the department's failure to regularize their employment over the past two to two-and-a-half decades.
For years, these outsourced support workers have collaborated with the department, with promises of job regularization repeatedly made but left unfulfilled. This uncertainty has created numerous challenges for them, affecting not only their work lives but also causing distress within their families.
"We have been patient for far too long," said Prasant Sekhar Dev, one of the protesting workers. "We are left with no choice but to take this step. If the department does not address our concerns promptly, we are prepared to escalate our protest in the future."
During the work stoppage, prominent figures like Apu Das, Sujit Ravi Das, Dilip Das Purkayasthoy, Hasan Ahmed Majumder, Suman Kano, Abhijit, Prakash Goala, Syed Ahmed Chowdhury, Mousumi Dev, Hilal Majumder, and others joined the demonstration, highlighting the solidarity among the outsourced support workers.
This strike serves as a testament to the workers' determination and their demand for job security. As the protest continues, they await a firm decision from the department, emphasizing the urgency of addressing their grievances to prevent further escalation of their movement. Stay tuned for updates on this ongoing workers' protest.
