Palonghat villagers accuse finance commission for misusing Rs. 6 lakh on road project
Didarkhose villagers have leveled accusations against the 15th Finance Commission, alleging the misappropriation of 6 lakh rupees designated for a vital road construction project connecting Nayabazar to Kandigram in the Palonghat development block.
Despite the allocation of funds, only 30 meters of roadwork has been completed over several months, prompting a community-led investigation. Preliminary findings revealed that the entire allocated amount had been withdrawn without any tangible progress on the ground.
In response to mounting concerns, villagers lodged a formal complaint with Ramen Dutta, the official overseeing the Palonghat development block. Acting swiftly, Dutta, accompanied by a team including Assistant Engineer Nirupam Mondal, Aggregate Engineer Sandeep Shuklabaidya, and former GP President Iqbal Bahar Salim, visited the site to assess the situation.
Their inspection confirmed the villagers' suspicions, with only 30 meters of roadwork completed. Dutta reassured the community of a thorough investigation and pledged to take appropriate action against any wrongdoing, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in public projects.
During his visit, Dutta also addressed other complaints of corruption in various projects across the area, underscoring his commitment to upholding integrity in development initiatives. As residents await the outcome of the investigation, there is a renewed call for accountability and effective utilization of allocated funds to ensure meaningful community development.
