Photography Competition Promotes Creativity at Gurucharan College's World Photography Day Event

Silchar, August 20, 2023: Gurucharan College's Mass Communication Department hosted a captivating photography competition and exhibition today to commemorate World Photography Day. The event, a first for the college, saw enthusiastic participation from students and was inaugurated by college dignitaries including Dr. Bibash Deb (Principal), Gopa Singha (Vice-Principal), Dr. Apratim Nag (IQAC Coordinator), Dr. Prantapriyo Dhar (Coordinator of Mass Communication Dept.), and Dr. Sandipa Das (HOD, Mass Communication Dept.). This initiative not only aimed to showcase students' creative talents but also offered a platform for budding photographers and journalists to shine.

In his speech, Principal Dr. Bibash Deb lauded the organizing team for their initiative and expressed his confidence that this event would provide a significant boost to the emerging photographers and journalists of the region. A total of 45 captivating photographs adorned the exhibition, capturing diverse perspectives and themes. Esteemed judges, Professor Dr. Nirmal Kanti Roy (HOD, Dept. of Visual Arts, Assam University) and renowned filmmaker and documentarian Biswajit Sheel, meticulously evaluated the entries.

The competition encouraged participants to tap into their creativity and exhibit their unique viewpoints through the lens. The top honorees of the competition were announced with Nabadeeta Paul securing the 1st prize, closely followed by Gaikhon Rongmei at 2nd place, and Bahnishika Chakraborty taking the 3rd prize. In recognition of exceptional work, the judges awarded special mention prizes to Mahi Paul and Ujjal Lohar. The event not only fostered artistic expression but also emphasized the importance of storytelling through visuals in the realm of mass communication.
