Silchar, 09/09/23 - In a significant breakthrough, the Panisagar police station in Uttar district launched a rigorous search operation, aided by newly installed naka gates, aimed at eradicating the drug trade in the state. During a routine check at a naka point along the Asama-Agartala national highway, police intercepted a six-wheeler truck bearing the registration number TR,01AS,1812. What they uncovered inside the vehicle sent shockwaves through the local law enforcement community—a sizable quantity of illegal Gaza.
The 23-year-old driver of the vehicle, identified as Arun Debbarma, was promptly arrested in connection with this unique smuggling attempt, which unfolded within the 43-mile radius under Ambasa police station's jurisdiction.
In a cunning twist, the police discovered the illicit Gaza concealed within the vehicle by utilizing a novel method involving two pipes, allowing them to dive inside the pipe to access the hidden stash. District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty, Panisagar sub-divisional police officer Soumya Debvarma, Panisagar police station OC Ashish Sarkar, and other police personnel were present at the scene to oversee the operation.
During the initial interrogation, the accused driver confessed to his involvement in the smuggling operation, claiming he was transporting the ganja from Agartala to an overseas destination. In response, the Panisagar police station promptly registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and are currently intensively interrogating the accused driver to unravel the full extent of the illicit drug network.
This operation underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies in the state to crack down on drug-related activities, with the newly installed naka gates playing a pivotal role in enhancing their capabilities for such operations. The successful interception and seizure of 100 kilos of illegal Gaza send a clear message that drug traffickers will face stringent action in their attempts to operate within the state.
