Police rescue 2 minor girls, arrest two youths in 'Love Jihad' incident near Guwahati College

The Assam Police achieved a breakthrough on Saturday, successfully resolving two cases of 'Love Jihad' in Guwahati, where two minor girls were rescued from the clutches of two youths from the minority community who had misrepresented themselves as Hindus.

The arrested individuals, identified as Shahidul Islam from Dhubri and Murshid Ali from Dalgaon in Darrang District, were apprehended near Guwahati College at Jyotinagar in Bamunimaidam.

Reports indicate that both girls had voluntarily eloped with the youths six months ago, having developed romantic relationships with them. In a deceptive move, Shahidul introduced himself as Raja, while Murshid adopted the name Rahul when they initially met the minor girls.

Allegedly, the teens convinced the girls to elope, citing opposition from their families to their relationships. Subsequently, missing cases were filed by the families at Chandmari police station.

Shockingly, it has been revealed that one of the victimized girls is four months pregnant.

Both accused individuals were promptly arrested under the POCSO Act and subsequently detained in accordance with the law. The rescued girls, now victims, have been placed under the care of the Centre Home in Guwahati. The authorities are diligently addressing the complexities of these cases, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding minors from deceptive practices and ensuring their well-being.
