Political parties in Andhra Pradesh distribute condoms with party symbols on packet ahead of elections
In the run-up to the General Elections in Andhra Pradesh, both major political parties, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), have come under scrutiny for distributing condom packets featuring their respective party symbols.
A viral video circulating on social media captures the moment when party workers from the ruling YSR Congress Party and the opposition TDP distribute these condom packets during door-to-door visits in preparation for the upcoming polls.
The act has triggered a war of words between the two parties. YSRCP criticized the TDP's approach, questioning how low the opposition party would stoop. The YSRCP, in a statement, quipped, "Will it stop with condoms or even start distributing Viagra to the public?"
In response, the TDP retaliated by sharing a similar condom pack adorned with the YSRCP logo. The TDP sarcastically asked whether this represents the preparedness ('siddam') the YSRCP was boasting about. The condom distribution tactic has added a controversial and unusual dimension to the political landscape in Andhra Pradesh, raising eyebrows and sparking debates ahead of the crucial elections.
