Protest emerges outside GC College's gate on Monday, ABVP promises justice for the students.

Silchar: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad's Gurucharan College Unit on 6th Sept 2021 raised various issues regarding this year's admission procedure with it being clouded by discrepancies mainly because of the pandemic's obvious effects. A group of almost 150-200 students gathered outside GC College to demand their right to get admission to the college. ABVP stood by them and the students supported ABVP by signing their names in lists which were given along with the memorandum submitted to the principal. 

With the provisional and waiting lists of students wanting to take admission in commerce and science streams being out on the public, there came a lot of problems in the list. The cutoff percentage to take admission in commerce majors is 70, but the cutoff ended well above 85, 88 to be precise. Also, some students with high percentages like 89, didn't come on the list. Many eligible students thus did not make their way to the merit list. Interestingly, many students who studied their HS in GC College itself did not have their names printed in the merit list. Thus, ABVP GC College Unit demanded the inclusion of the deserving students in the list and if required, increase the number of seats and shifts, as directed by the state government itself.

Another demand was made to allow students to undergo online counselling where they should be allowed to change their subjects, if required, in order to reduce the cutoff marks or apply under any quota for getting admission.

The honourable principal of Gurucharan College Dr. Bibhash Deb assured ABVP to come up with a solution to their demands by this Friday i.e 10th September 2021.
