Scooter catches fire near Rangirkhari Petrol Pump, driver mysteriously flees
An unexpected fire broke out in a Honda scooter near the Rangirkhari Petrol Pump in Silchar on Tuesday evening, leading to panic in the area. According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred shortly after the scooter had refueled at the Rangirkhari Auto Mobile Petrol Pump.
As the driver noticed flames erupting from the vehicle, he quickly abandoned the scooter and fled the scene, leaving the vehicle to burn in the middle of the road. The sudden blaze caused widespread alarm, with locals questioning the driver's abrupt disappearance.
Local residents rushed to extinguish the fire and immediately alerted the fire department. However, by the time the fire brigade arrived, the scooter was already engulfed in flames and was completely destroyed.
While the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, it is suspected that an electrical fault in the scooter may have triggered the incident. The situation led to significant unrest in the area as residents voiced their concerns over the safety and maintenance of vehicles on the road.
In response to the incident, the Rangirkhari Outpost In-Charge and his team arrived at the scene to investigate. Local residents accused the petrol pump authorities of negligence, claiming that their requests for fire extinguishers were initially ignored by the pump staff, who closed the facility and left.
Eventually, one staff member attempted to assist with a fire extinguisher, but it was found to be empty. Based on the complaints from the locals, the police seized four empty fire extinguishers from the petrol pump, further fueling concerns about the preparedness of such facilities in emergency situations.
