Arkajyoti Roy Choudhury who is a Muay Thai athlete has recently participated in the National SAVATE Championship a type of French Kick-boxing organised by Savate Association of India (SAI) held at Haryana in October.
This was Arkajyoti's first National Level Tournament and before that, he used to play in the local tournaments for local clubs and used to participate in in-house games arranged by his Dojo "Extreme Martial Arts". "I was well prepared for the tournament and I was confident enough for a medal, didn't think it will be gold as it was a national level tournament. I concentrated on my movements and it seems to do the trick.", said Arkajyoti. His coach, Rameshwar Das, who was also present during the interview said, " I was sure that Arka will bring a medal, gold or silver but there will be a medal. In his weight category, he's comparatively very fast, not many can achieve that speed at his body weight."
Arkajyoti was a part of the under-16 cricket team of 2012 from Silchar Collegiate School which was also the winning school that year. When asked if he's a martial artist from his childhood he said, "I left the gym in 2017, before that I used to play cricket only. After leaving the gym there was a gap of 1 year and then I joined Muay Thai. It was a different level of experience and I started enjoying it."
Arkajyoti clinched his first Nationals at the very first attempt. When we asked what was his secret and what mantra did his coach gave him he said, "It is all about intense workout and training which is being provided before any tournament. But the main thing is when you use the right technique and correct combination in real-time because if you fail to do so then all your hard work will go in vain. I thank my coach for this." Arka is one of the favourites in his dojo. "He is the most fun kind of person to be around, but also a hard-working person. In such a short period, he progressed very well and I hope that with even more hard work he'll go a long way." Coach Rameshwar Das added.
In future, Arkajyoti very much wants to win 2 more National tournaments. He said, "I'd like to win a Nationals in Muay Thai and also in Boxing. Even though I've very little training in boxing but I'd like to carry on with the motivation and at least try." When we asked the same question his coach said that he has very high hopes with Arka and he also hopes that if he continues to work like this he is capable of achieving even bigger heights. "I'm sure he can even archive heights at the international level. He has a very quick reflex and achieving that in his weight category isn't everybody's cup of tea. I believe in him that he'll bring more glory to our Dojo," said Rameshwar Das.
