In a resounding victory for environmental conservation and worker rights, the Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of protecting the Dolu Tea Garden, a high-quality tea estate in Barak Valley. The decision comes after the administration, in collaboration with the government, undertook destructive activities, jeopardizing the livelihoods of garden workers under the guise of development.

At a press conference held at the Silchar District Congress Committee office, party officials expressed their appreciation for the Supreme Court's intervention in the Dolu Tea Garden issue. District President Abhijit Pal commended the various organizations that had brought attention to the plight of the tea garden and made allegations against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Pal criticized the BJP for its reckless destruction of 42 lakh saplings without considering the environmental impact. He questioned the motives behind bringing police from outside districts and deploying hundreds of bulldozers to destroy lakhs of saplings, leaving garden workers in a helpless condition. The construction of a "greenfield airport" led to the destruction of two sections of the Dolu tea plantations, raising concerns about the future of the affected workers and the environment.

Silchar District Congress officials raised important questions about the restoration of the tea garden and the reinstatement of workers who have lost their jobs due to the destruction. They called on the administration, including the BJP, to address these issues and ensure justice for the affected workers and the environment.

The press conference was attended by prominent figures such as Barakhla MLA Misbaul Islam Lashkar, Surya Kant Sarkar, Sanjeev Roy, Congress official Seeman Bhattacharjee, and other party members, highlighting the widespread concern and support for the Dolu Tea Garden cause within the Congress party.
