Silchar hit and run: Liquor laden car injuries 15, Driver arrested

A Bolero SUV loaded with alcohol caused a hit-and-run incident in Silchar on Friday night around 9:45 PM, injuring at least 15 people.

The vehicle struck multiple pedestrians and vehicles near the Silchar Municipal Building, causing chaos and leading to significant public outrage.

Eyewitnesses reported that after the initial impact near Sadarghat area, the SUV continued to hit more people at Capital Mor and several bikes and e-rickshaws along Trunk Road.

Following the rampage, a group of bikers chased the SUV, which eventually got stuck near Tennis Club due to a roadside ditch.

Angry locals vandalized the vehicle, leading to police intervention. The driver, who was found with a large quantity of alcohol in the vehicle, was arrested, and the car was seized.

Some eyewitnesses mentioned that there was another person in the car who managed to escape during the commotion. This incident has sparked serious concerns about road safety and the enforcement of traffic regulations.
