Silchar Police caught 17 thieves in one night raid; residents finally breathe a sigh of relief

In a single night operation, the Silchar police successfully apprehended 17 thieves, bringing a sense of relief to the beleaguered residents. Over the past month, the city had been grappling with a surge in criminal activities, and despite repeated complaints to the police, there seemed to be no respite.

Almost every day, incidents of theft were reported from various neighborhoods of the city, including Rangpur Tarapur Malugram, Middle City, College Road, and New Silchar. Frustrated residents had even taken their grievances to the District Congress, filing a memorandum against the police, accusing them of inaction.

Responding to the mounting pressure, the local police finally swung into action. On Tuesday night, under the leadership of Police Superintendent Numal Mahattar, five police teams conducted a city-wide operation. The crackdown resulted in the apprehension of 17 thieves along with stolen goods from different parts of the city.

Speaking to the media, the District Police Superintendent stated that the arrested thieves would be interrogated during police remand. Investigations are underway to determine if any external elements or individuals from outside the district were involved in these criminal activities.

Assuring residents, the Police Superintendent stated that the operation would continue, emphasizing the commitment of the police force to maintaining law and order in the city. The community can expect an ongoing and relentless effort to curb criminal activities and ensure the safety of the residents.
