Silchar protests: Residents demand urgent road repairs, block capital point

Members of the YASE organization, along with other groups, staged a road blockade at Silchar Capital Point, demanding urgent repairs of the city's deteriorating roads.

Chanting slogans against the BJP government, the protesters created a significant commotion on Wednesday morning.

In conversations with the media, protesters highlighted that for several years, the poor condition of Silchar's roads has posed serious risks to residents.

They pointed out that large potholes often cause accidents, leading to injuries. Despite repeated appeals, neither the Public Works Department nor the government has taken concrete steps to repair the roads.

The protesters accused Silchar’s MLA and MP of making grand promises while remaining inactive. They specifically mentioned the hazardous state of the road from Capital Point to Medical Road, demanding immediate action from the authorities.

The protesters issued a stern ultimatum through the media, giving the government and administration a 72-hour deadline to repair the roads.

They warned of a larger democratic movement if their demands were not met within this timeframe. They emphasized the urgency of their request, citing the life-threatening conditions of the roads and accusing the local leaders of incompetence.
