Silchar Shahar Shanti Srinkhala Shurakkha Committee demands immediate arrest of Sujit Das Choudhury

Officials of the Silchar City Peace and Security Committee, along with residents of Vivekananda Road, staged a sit-in protest in front of the Superintendent of Police’s office, demanding strict punishment for Sujit Das Choudhury.

The protesters, seeking justice for Sujit, urged Superintendent Numal Mahata to swiftly arrest Sujit and ensure exemplary punishment. 

Last Saturday, the Committee had set a deadline until Sunday for the arrest of Sujit and his accomplices, who are accused of assaulting businessman Sukanta Kar, also known as Bapi, in Ramgarh near Taponagar.

As Sujit remains at large, Committee members began their sit-in protest on Wednesday. They carried posters with slogans like “Go away Land Mafia,” “Punish Sujit Gang,” and “Police, why are you silent?” demanding Sujit's "encounter".

Protesters remarked that with numerous encounters happening elsewhere, Sujit and his gang, who have created widespread terror in the city, should also be encountered.

They warned that if Sujit and his absconding accomplices are not arrested within seven days, they would be compelled to call for a Silchar bandh (shutdown).
