Silchar resident Hemant Das has earned a coveted spot in the Kalaripayattu Martial Arts State Team representing Assam at the National Games. He will compete in the Kalaripayadu fighting event at the prestigious sporting event, which is currently underway at various venues in Goa. As of now, Assam stands twelfth in the overall rankings, securing four gold medals, three silvers, and eight bronzes in different categories.
The Asare Kalaripadu event, in which Hemant will participate, is scheduled to take place from November 6 to 8 in Panjim. The state team comprises 17 skilled athletes, including 10 male members and 7 female members. Hemant, along with his teammates, will be heading to Goa from Guwahati on November 5. Prior to the competition, he will be part of a preparatory camp held from November 1 to 3.
Expressing their contentment, Sudip Pal, President of Cachar District Kalari Payadu Association, and Secretary Ramjoy Das praised Hemant's achievement. They highlighted that Hemant's inclusion in the state team for such a significant event like the National Games is a matter of pride for the organization. Previously, two players from their association, Tamima Chowdhury and Rupsi Das, represented the state team at Khelo India. Hemant's coach, Ramjoy Das, spoke highly of his talent, emphasizing his skills and dedication. Hemant, in a press conference, expressed his happiness about being selected for the state team, marking a significant milestone in his sports career.
