Swift dzire accident on Silchar-Hailakandi road, passengers escape unharmed

A road accident was narrowly averted when a car swerved to avoid a pothole on the Silchar-Hailakandi road, saving the driver and passengers from serious harm.

The incident occurred late Wednesday night in the Meherpur Kathal Point area. According to reports, at around 1 AM, a Swift Dzire (registration AS11N 6305) returning from a wedding ceremony in Silchar's Capital Point area lost control and struck a divider while trying to avoid a pothole.

The car was badly damaged, but fortunately, the driver and passengers escaped with minor injuries. Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the loud crash and rescued the occupants.

Police arrived shortly after and towed the damaged vehicle to the station.

Locals have complained that the Silchar-Hailakandi road has been in poor condition for days, with potholes filled with water, posing a risk to travelers.

Frequent accidents occur due to the deteriorating road, and there are no proper drainage systems or street lights in the area, despite it being within city limits.

They have urged the government to repair the road urgently and install street lights for safer travel.
