Swine flu alert issued in Cachar, 4 infected, admitted in SMCH
Swine flu cases have surfaced in Cachar district, with three children and a teenager currently under treatment at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Despite the concerning development, Cachar Joint Health Director Dr. Ashutosh Barman urged residents to remain calm and prioritize preventive measures. The affected individuals, ranging from infants to teenagers, are reportedly responding well to treatment, with one already discharged from the hospital.
Dr. Ajit Dey, a professor at the Social and Preventive Medicine Department of Silchar Medical College, reassured the public that swine flu, caused by the N1H1 virus, is akin to seasonal influenza.
While cautioning against panic, he emphasized the importance of adhering to preventive measures such as regular handwashing, wearing masks, and avoiding crowded areas. The district health authorities have initiated awareness programs and advised the public to seek medical advice if symptoms persist.
Efforts to curb the spread of the virus include issuing alerts through the Infectious Diseases Surveillance Program (IDSP) and promoting preventive measures akin to those adopted during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Residents are encouraged to maintain personal hygiene, wear masks, and isolate affected individuals to prevent further transmission. Additionally, individuals exhibiting flu-like symptoms are advised to undergo virological testing and follow medical advice for appropriate treatment and care.
