A talk on Genetics is arranged by the department of Zoology, Gurucharan College, Silchar on 20-03-2023 at 12.30 pm. The talk is delivered by Prof Pradip Sinha, Emeritus Fellow, Biological Sciences and Bio-engineering, IIT Kanpur. He narrated his journey from being a student of Zoology Honours in Gurucharan College in 1975 to his PhD from BHU Varanasi.
Presently he is associated with IIT Kanpur. He discussed his life long research on the fruit fly , Drosophila. His research reveals important clues in controlling Cancerous expressions. He has very lucidly explained the concept of Deep Homology, which might change the traditional concept of studying Biology. He narrated his research experiences in an interactive way with the participating students.
At the beginning of the invited talk, Dr Nilendu Dhar, Head, Department of Zoology made his welcome speech and expressed happiness in receiving the reknowned alumni Prof Pradip Sinha to this college. The occasion is graced by the presence Dr Bibhas Dev Principal, Gurucharan College, Dr Gopa Sinha, Vice Principal, Gurucharan College and faculty members from the departments of Zoology, Chemistry, Botany and English.
A total of 94 BSc students from Gurucharan College and Cachar College from the departments of Zoology, Botany and Biotechnology have participated in the said talk. The entire programme is anchored by Shubhodeep Bhattacharjee and Suryodeep Bhattacharjee. Dr Debipreeta Dutta, Asst Professor in Zoology read out the profile of the guest speaker. Dr Seba Roy, Associate Prof in Zoology felicitated the guest speaker with a token gift. Kaustav Purkayastha and Suryasneha Deb sang the inaugural song. Isha Roy made the best interaction with the guest speaker. Mr Bijoy Brahma, Asst Professor in Zoology delivered the vote of thanks.
