Teenager Emma Raducanu beats Leylah Fernandez To Win US Women's Singles Title.
Emma Raducanu of England defeated Canada's Leylah Fernandez in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, to win the US Open women's singles title. She became the first qualifier to capture a Grand Slam title and the first British woman since 1977 to lift the US open title.
The two teenagers ranked 150th and 73rd in WTA rankings brought their best games in front of 23, 000 cheering crowd. The two players born in 2002 separated by two months marked the beginning of a new era in women's tennis.
The epic finale of the two teenagers was the first all-teen Slam final since 17-year-old Serena Williams beat 18-year-old Martina Hingis for the 1999 US Open crown.
