Tokyo Olympics : Indian archer Atanu Das beats 2-time korean gold medallist.
It's a matter of utmost pride for Indians.
India’s top men’s archer Atanu Das beats London 2012 Olympic gold medalist Korea’s Oh Jinhyek by 6-5 in 1/16 eliminations of men’s individual archery at Tokyo Olympics.
Atanu came through two tense matches as he put behind the disappointment of the men’s team event to showcase his class at the Yumenoshima Final Field in Tokyo.
Cheered on by World No. 1 and his wife Deepika Kumari, Atanu Das hit the bulls eye to eliminate Oh Jinhyek in a nerve-wracking shoot-off in his Round of 32 match that was tied at 5-5 at the end of 5 sets.
Das, India’s highest-ranked male archer, will look to live up to the billing and make his mark, after missing out in the team’s event. With Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav knocked out on Wednesday, Das remains the only Indian male archer still in the competition and will be willing to fire himself through to the quarter-finals. Should he qualify he will have followed the footsteps of his wife Deepika Kumari, who qualified for the quarter-finals on Wednesday.
