Tragic incident: 18-year-old Debasis Paul drowns in Madurai River, body still missing

In a heartbreaking incident on Sunday, 18-year-old Debasis Paul from Radha Madhav College drowned at the Doya Disa waterfall in the Madura River.

Despite desperate attempts by his friends to save him, Debasis was pulled away by the strong currents, leaving his family and friends devastated.

The tragedy occurred around noon when Debasis and his friends went to enjoy their Sunday at the scenic waterfall. While swimming, he slipped and was caught in a whirlpool where the waterfall meets the river. His friends tried to rescue him but were unsuccessful.

Upon receiving the distress call, Officer-in-Charge Haukam Changsang from Udharband Police Station arrived with his team, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) initiated a comprehensive search.

Despite ongoing efforts, Debasis's body has not yet been found. Debasis, the son of Rinku Paul, a 6th AP Battalion member, lived with his family in Kathal Bagan.

His parents, who rushed to the scene upon hearing the news, were heartbroken by the loss. The police investigation continues, and search efforts are still underway as his family and friends await closure.
