Tragic loss: 17-year-old boy dies while trying to save cow in Cachar flood
A 17-year-old youth tragically lost his life while trying to save a calf from floodwaters in Cachar's Borkhola constituency.
Nazir Hossain Laskar, the son of the late Mukabbir Ali Laskar from Badarpur Machimpur GP's Badarpur 2nd Khanda village, drowned while attempting to rescue his family's calf from the rising waters.
Local residents attempted to save him but were unsuccessful. The incident was reported to the Borkhola police station, and Second Officer Nayan Kumar arrived at the scene, recovering Nazir's body and sending it to Silchar Medical College for an autopsy.
Nazir was the sole breadwinner for his family, leaving behind a destitute mother.
The community is now appealing for government assistance and seeking intervention from Borkhola MLA Misbahul Islam Laskar to support the grieving family.
