What is the latest privacy feature WhatsApp is offering? Here's how to use it
New layer of security adds an extra dimension to locked chats, offering users greater control over confidential conversations
In a bid to fortify user privacy, WhatsApp has launched the 'Secret Code' feature, building upon the 'Chat Lock' introduced in May 2023. This innovative addition aims to empower users with enhanced control over the privacy of their conversations.
The 'Secret Code' feature elevates the concept of locked chats by enabling users to conceal protected conversations behind a personalized code. This strategic enhancement introduces an additional layer of complexity for potential intruders attempting to access these chats, especially in situations where phone security may be compromised or when sharing the device with others.
Heightened Security Measures
Users can now set a unique password for their locked chats, distinct from their phone unlock code, adding an extra safeguard for confidential conversations. Additionally, the option to conceal the Locked Chats folder from the general chat list offers an additional level of confidentiality.
As outlined in WhatsApp's blog introducing the 'Secret Code' for Chat Lock, users can craft a secret code using a combination of letters, numbers, special characters, and emojis. To access locked chats, one simply needs to input the chosen password into the WhatsApp search bar.
Chat Lock Process
In tandem with the new secret code feature, WhatsApp has streamlined the process for locking chats. Users can now lock a chat by long-pressing on the conversation, eliminating the need to navigate into the chat's settings.

Global Rollout
Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has already initiated the rollout of the 'Secret Code' feature, with global availability expected in the coming months. This move reflects Meta's commitment to continually enhancing user privacy and security across its platforms.
WhatsApp users can anticipate a more robust and personalized security experience with the introduction of the 'Secret Code' feature, setting a new standard for confidential communication within the messaging app.
