Papiya Kar, a woman from West Bengal was attending her brother's wedding. After the guests were gone she found out that a lot of food was left. So she decided to not waste the food and make use of it. It was midnight when she with some of her relatives went to the nearby railway station. They decided to distribute the leftover food to the hungry and poor people. The woman was clicked with metal buckets and big containers filled with food and serving meals on a paper plate by herself. At first, they didn't think that anyone would come to take the food. In no time she was surrounded by elderly women, small children, rickshaw pullers. They didn't expect to have so many people at night time.
Papiya Kar is a social worker, well known in her district for helping the poor with such gestures. Many locals who came across her photos said it's not an isolated incident and that she is known to feed the needy in the locality. Many praised her for her actions highlighting the wastage of food.
In India, weddings are often an extravagant affair. Close to 20% of the food served on the occasion goes on to waste. Isn't this a great idea to serve needy people? Just imagine the happiness they receive while taking each bite of the food you serve them.
