May 20: On Monday, women from Ward 3 of Lakhipur city staged a protest at the Lakhipur Municipal Office, protesting the prolonged drinking water shortage in their area.
The situation became tense when the protesters did not find the chairman, vice-chairman, or any commissioners in the office.
The residents have been facing severe drinking water issues for the past year, forcing many families in Wards 3 and 4 to purchase water.
Despite numerous complaints to the municipal chairman and local commissioners, no action has been taken to resolve the problem.
Protesters voiced their frustration to the media, accusing the chairman of making false promises and asking for more time without delivering any solutions.
They highlighted that their ward also suffers from issues like electricity shortages and poor water management, which the municipality has failed to address.
The women criticized the municipality for its lack of developmental work since the last election, stating that officials only seek their votes but ignore their problems afterward.
They warned that if the water crisis is not resolved soon, they would be compelled to escalate their protest activities.
